SEPIDEH SHANEMATI
ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER I

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CITY REGARDING DESIGN – WHETHER IT BE FASHION, ARCHITECTURE, ART?
Vernacular architecture in Yazd, Iran, is a remarkable reflection of the region’s unique cultural and environmental context. This architectural style is characterized by its adaptation to the desert climate, local materials, and traditional building techniques. And, Masouleh, a picturesque village in northern Iran, is known for its unique vernacular architecture that harmonizes with the mountainous landscape and local climate.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE AN ARCHITECT?
My interest in art began in my teenage years, largely inspired by my sister. I dedicated my free time to painting and pottery classes, which fostered a deep appreciation for creativity and handcrafts. The joy of creating through this pottery and drawings sparked a passion within me. At the age of 16, I took a significant step by enrolling in art school, where I ultimately decided to pursue a career in architecture.

CAN YOU SHARE A RECENT PROJECT YOU LOVED WORKING ON?
One notable example of a Residential project I am particularly pleased with is the outcome of Brick Mill Road, which combines aesthetics and functionality. We tried to effectively utilize site views and demonstrated intelligent spatial communication throughout the design. The project’s layout was planned to maximize ventilation and natural light, promoting a smooth transition between indoor and outdoor areas. Windows and balconies were thoughtfully positioned to provide peace while enabling people to interact with their surroundings.
